CBD Oil -Godsend or Useless?
My last post, more than a year ago, claimed that CBD oil was effective in that it appeared to reduce the frequency, intensity and duration of my paralytic spasms. This appeared to be the case for some time but I now have to wonder if it truly acted upon my spasms or if I had fooled myself - a self-induced placebo effect.
The practitioner who had prescribed CBD oil explained that unlike some drugs, the body does not become accustomed to CBD thereby reducing its effectiveness, however, I have reason to believe this is not the case. Spasms have returned -BIG TIME.
Several changes have occurred since first being prescribed CBD oil in late September of 2023. First off, the Doctor/CBD oil practitioner called to inform me that she was abandoning her practice and there was no one to take it over. She did, however, renew my initial prescription for another full year prior to closing up her shop.
Since moving back to my hometown, I've had three family physicians, one who outright abandoned his practice a year or so after I signed on; a second doctor I found, again left his practice about a year later; and a third who didn't leave his practice but relocated it to a distant, congested area of the city making it a challenge to access when needed. In the cover letter to his patients he claimed he was doing so "for the benefit of his patients." No sir, you did it to benefit yourself. His practice, now near a major hospital, benefits the doctor. Blood work and minor test such as x-rays can be done on the premises, more elaborate tests (cat-scans, MRI and such) would need to be scheduled in the future and would require a separate distant trip to the hospital - no convenience to the patient.
With my CBD oil doctor abandoning her practice, the count is now up to three doctors leaving me high and dry while the fourth made access to their clinic challenging.
The final blow (to date) came when the pharmacy which dispenses the doctor's CBD oil prescription, informed me that the manufacturer of the CBD oil I was prescribed, would no longer be making the product at the strength/dosage I was prescribed. Their wording was almost comical regarding the change. With the manufacturer of the CBD oil discontinuing the 1:30 THC to CBD concentration and replacing it with a 1:15 concentration, the pharmacy stated that the same formula would continue to be available in a "gentler, patient friendly strength". Can you imagine your heart medication or insulin dosage being cut in half making it gentler for you?
Another manufacturer does manufacture the CBD oil at 1:30 so I made the switch. It cost marginally more than what my original prescription cost. The colour and taste differs from my original formula. Whether this has any impact on it's efficacy I'm unable to determine except that over time the spasms have returned -BIG TIME.
The original formulation, available at 1:15 remains available but I would have to double the dosage (three times a day) to get the same quantity of oil in my system. The 1:15 CBD oil also costs proportionately more that the 1:30 so the alternate manufacturer, if truly the same product, costs less that doubling the 1:15 concentration.
So I am lost. At over a thousand dollars a year, does this product significantly improve my life? I don't know. To find out, I would have to discontinue using the product to see if the spasms become worse, more frequent or more intense than they currently are.
Rather than find another CBD oil doctor/practitioner and go through the interview and assessment process over again, I just may chose to do so. I currently have sufficient supply of the alternative 1:30 to last until the fall of 2026. I'll decide at that time what to do.
